چکیده

Growth and spore formation of Candida albicans Y-45 was enhanced by low oxygen tension. Mycelium and chlamydospores were abundantly found on rice infusion-Tween 80 agar within 48 to 96 h, and abundant chlamdospore production occurred most rapidly under reduced oxygen tension and incubation at 30 degrees C. Zn, Mg, Mn, anf Fe were tested for their ability to promote filamentation in C. albicans Y-45. Filamentation under conditions of low Mg and high Mn suggested that morphogenesis is possibly correlated with the presence of salts of these heavy metals.

Candida albicans ISW2 Regulates Chlamydospore Suspensor Cell Formation and Virulence In Vivo in a Mouse Model of Disseminated Candidiasis

Formation of chlamydospores by Candida albicans was an established medical diagnostic test to confirm candidiasis before the molecular era. However, the functional role and pathological relevance of this in vitro morphological transition to pathogenesis in vivo remain unclear. We compared the physical properties of in vitro-induced chlamydospores with those of large C. albicans cells purified b...

Candida albicans and Candida dubliniensis: comparison of biofilm formation in terms of biomass and activity.

Candida albicans and C. dubliniensis are two species responsible for oral candidiasis, especially in immunocompromised patients. Microbial infection is preceded by adherence and biofilm formation. Biofilm formation represents the most common form of C. albicans in the oral cavity and is considered to be one of the most important virulence factors. In this study, the biofilm formation ability of...

Targeted Changes of the Cell Wall Proteome Influence Candida albicans Ability to Form Single- and Multi-strain Biofilms

Biofilm formation is an important virulence trait of the pathogenic yeast Candida albicans. We have combined gene overexpression, strain barcoding and microarray profiling to screen a library of 531 C. albicans conditional overexpression strains (∼10% of the genome) for genes affecting biofilm development in mixed-population experiments. The overexpression of 16 genes increased strain occupancy...

Plant-derived decapeptide OSIP108 interferes with Candida albicans biofilm formation without affecting cell viability.

We previously identified a decapeptide from the model plant Arabidopsis thaliana, OSIP108, which is induced upon fungal pathogen infection. In this study, we demonstrated that OSIP108 interferes with biofilm formation of the fungal pathogen Candida albicans without affecting the viability or growth of C. albicans cells. OSIP108 displayed no cytotoxicity against various human cell lines. Further...

Effect of Tetrandrine against Candida albicans Biofilms

Candida albicans is the most common human fungal pathogen and has a high propensity to develop biofilms that are resistant to traditional antifungal agents. In this study, we investigated the effect of tetrandrine (TET) on growth, biofilm formation and yeast-to-hypha transition of C. albicans. We characterized the inhibitory effect of TET on hyphal growth and addressed its possible mechanism of...
